As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. When it comes to pests, this belief is also very useful. It is important to prevent pests from penetrating inside your home or business premise so that you do not have to worry about treating a serious infestation.

Cockroach is a very common domestic pest. The good news is that there are steps you can proactively make in order to keep your home protected.

Cut their food sources

Cockroaches love to go back repeatedly in areas where they can scavenge as much food, even if that means just food crumbs and leftovers. If you eliminate the things that sustain them, there is less chance that they will go back for more.

Make sure to leave your kitchen clean and free of any food debris. Cover your garbage can completely or throw it away immediately.

Cover food containers, wipe surfaces, clean the surrounding area of your kitchen appliances and avoid unwashed utensils in the sink.

Clean up

Cockroaches love dark, damp and dirty spaces where they can hide for long. It is always a good practice to keep your surroundings clean.

By clean, it means you avoid unnecessary clutter that may be an ideal hiding place for these creatures. Throw old stuff you do not need such as boxes or newspapers.

Keep your storage cabinets clean, and do not forget the back or bottom of appliances such as stoves, ovens and refrigerators. Any leftover food crumbs are a gem to these insects.

For as long as there is a reason for them to go and stay in your home, they will do so, so cut whatever it is that attracts them.

Additionally, keep hidden areas dry. Fix leaky pipes and faucets and remove any long standing water.

Seal their entry points

Take time off your schedule to check every nook and cranny of your home or business premises to see possible entry points. Remember that these insects are sneaky and they are good at hiding.

They can crawl even in tight spaces, so make sure to seal all possible entry points. It could be cracks on walls, gaps on windows or anything that has access to the outdoors such as pipes. Check under kitchen sinks and bathroom cabinets as well.
