1. Growing Plants that Repel Flies
There are many plants that can be used to stop the annoying flies buzzing around your head while you are eating or reading your favorite books.
Aside from its great tastes in beverages and dishes, fresh or dried basil can repel flies through its scent. The basil will not just help in keeping those annoying flies away, but will also give you joy with its pleasant aroma and can be grown inexpensively and quickly.
Lavender is one of the easiest ways to get rid of houseflies because it is widely available in so many forms. The strong floral scent from its foliage and blooms is just perfect to keep away flies, moths, as well as mosquitoes. Lavender can also be used to treat different ailments, including anxiety, insomnia, headaches, and many more.
Whether it is spearmint, peppermint, or whatever kind of mint, the mentha present on their stems and flowers makes them powerful in repelling different kinds of insects, including flies. Mints are naturally aromatic that’s why most people use their leaves on making beverages.
2. Making Cayenne Pepper Repellent
Flies avoid flying around the cayenne pepper plants or to foods containing hot pepper, or ginger. The irritation is thought to be caused by their inability to breathe whenever they smell hot pepper. You can also make a special anti-fly solution. Here’s how:
- Start by chopping 3 to 5 hot peppers as fine as possible, just make sure that you are protected. Or you may want to blend them finely in a food processor.
- Add 3 to 4 cups of water and continue blending until it is mixed well.
- Transfer the mixture to a spray bottle and spray it around the house to deter flies.
3. Using Vinegar and Dish Soap as Fly Trap
Have a bowl with an inch of vinegar and add some drops of dish soap. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band. Poke small holes on top. This is a perfect bait for all the flies lurking around your home. Flies are attracted to vinegar. While the dish soap breaks the surface tension of the water and vinegar, making the flies unable to use it as a launching pad to fly, instead, they sink and drown to death.
4. Use a Flypaper Trap
This is one of the simplest ways to get rid of the flies. There are lots of commercially available sticky papers in the market. Flypaper traps have a smell that makes the flies attracted and traps them in the glue when they land on it.
Flies are everywhere and getting rid of them is a never-ending process. You can consider the things said above to lessen or get rid of the flies and avoid the harmful effects they may bring to our health. Always keep your home clean.
